Ansible and Locus Online are both reporting the death of Rob Holdstock, after 10 days in hospital with an E. coli infection. I'm deeply saddened to hear this. I didn't know Rob well, but the first public fiction reading I ever gave, at ICFA way back when, was in a session with Rob and Sharon Shinn. I saw him at several ICFA's thereafter. An important writer and a very good guy.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear this! It was my first public reading too, and I was so nervous. He was exceptionally kind to me. He told me that all readings are different, that once he had only had one person in the audience, so the two of them adjourned to a pub and he did a dramatic reading to one very happy fan. Ever since then, I've always thought that might be the coolest way to give a reading ever... Sharon Shinn
